A closer look at what happened
Pep Guardiola’s team appeared to be in full control after Erling Haaland netted twice and Ilkay Gundogan added a third, giving the hosts a commanding lead. However, Feyenoord mounted a remarkable comeback, delighting their 5,000 travelling supporters.
Anis Hadj Moussa capitalised on a Josko Gvardiol error to spark the revival, before substitute Santiago Gimenez scored in the 82nd minute. David Hancko completed the dramatic turnaround in the 89th minute, leaving Guardiola visibly frustrated and some City fans voicing their displeasure at full-time.
City, without a win in six matches, now face Premier League title rivals Liverpool on Sunday under mounting pressure.
Where did it go wrong for City?
The evening began with so much promise. Erling Haaland opened the scoring from the penalty spot after being brought down by Quinten Timber.
When Haaland steered Matheus Nunes’ low cross into the net in the 53rd minute, the game seemed all but decided. However, a wayward pass from Josko Gvardiol gifted Feyenoord a lifeline, sparking their stunning comeback.
This looks like a City team struggling for direction, leaving Guardiola visibly frustrated. Now sitting 15th in the Champions League table, City risk two unwanted February play-off matches unless they find their rhythm.
