The greatest cup competition in football is here with the first-round proper, and there's already been a huge shock.

Tamworth 1 - 0 Huddersfield - 1

Former winners in Huddersfield Town have been dumped out by part-timers Tamworth, 57 places below them in the football pyramid.

Tom Tonks' long throw caused chaos all night, and it sailed onto the line before being helped over it by the flailing fist of keeper Chris Maxwell, sending The Lamb wild.

A closer look at what happened

Huddersfield struggled to cope with the direct balls into their box, while the Lambs varied their approach, showing real quality and more than matching their opponents in both effort and determination.

Tamworth’s keeper, Jas Singh, pulled off a couple of excellent saves, including a stunning close-range block with his legs to deny Tom Iorpenda.

But Huddersfield’s attacks were few and far between – especially in the second half – and the home side, who sit 16th in the National League, handled the win with surprising ease.

With this victory, Tamworth have now secured their sixth win in their last eight home matches, putting them just one step away from reaching the third round for the fourth time in their history.

The best reaction

I thought that Tamworth were so streetwise and they outfought League One opposition. What a night for the club and town, it's an incredible evening. How many people gave them a chance before the game?

William from Bradford watched the match on TV as a neutral. He said: @You always felt there was an upset going to happen. Tamworth were fantastic and Huddersfield were poor. One more game and they could be facing the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool or Arsenal.@
