Scotland: Celtic leave it late to maintain 100% record

Ross County 1 - 2 Celtic

Celtic shook off their midweek Champions League setback to continue their flawless Premiership run, clinching a late victory in Dingwall.

Celtic leave it late - 1

Alistair Johnston and Nicolas Kuhn both found the net in the second half, sealing the win for the reigning champions.

Brendan Rodgers' team remains unbeaten domestically this season, having won every match so far, as they head into the October international break in top form.

A closer look at what happened

For the first 70 minutes, Celtic struggled to make an impact against a well-organised Ross County. Their defensive solidity, discipline, and ability to take advantage of Celtic's lapses were exemplified by Ronan Hale’s first-half penalty.

Michee Efete's cross struck Liam Scales' arm, and after a brief check on the monitor, referee Kevin Clancy awarded the penalty. Hale's initial shot was weak and comfortably saved by Kasper Schmeichel, but the goalkeeper was judged to have moved too early. Given a second chance, Hale made no mistake, scoring his seventh goal since joining the club in the summer.

Ross County 1 - 2 Celtic

Celtic had yet to concede in the league this season, but when they let in goals during the League Cup against Hibernian and Falkirk, it seemed to spur them on to comfortable victories. That wasn’t the case here.

Despite their overwhelming dominance, with 82% possession, the reigning champions managed just three shots on target before Callum McGregor's powerful strike deflected off Alistair Johnston and flew in to level the match.

But even when they're not at their best, Celtic always seem to find a way. There was an air of inevitability about their winner. A precise pass from Johnston sliced through County's defence, allowing Nicolas Kuhn to race down the right and fire a superb shot into the far corner of the net.
