Terland, who made the switch to United from Brighton in July, opened the scoring at Leigh Sports Village by smashing in a cross from ex-Spurs forward Celin Bizet, with the ball bouncing in off the underside of the crossbar.

The Norwegian duo combined once more just a minute later, with Terland nodding in Bizet's curling cross to the far post, giving United a solid advantage before half-time.

Captain Maya Le Tissier rounded off the scoring, calmly converting from the penalty spot after Ashleigh Neville was penalised for handball in the box.

Terland came close to securing a hat-trick, but Becky Spencer managed to tip her low shot onto the post. The Norwegian forward left the pitch to a warm standing ovation, making way for Rachel Williams in the 76th minute.

The victory keeps Marc Skinner's side unbeaten, extending their perfect start to the WSL season with three wins from three matches.

My opinion

It was an unusual match, to be honest, and the stats we have all seen don’t quite tell the full story of the scoreline. However, that result ultimately highlights just how clinical Manchester United were, particularly Elisabeth Terland’s finishing. Her two superb goals just before the break completely changed the game—after that, Spurs were always playing catch-up. Despite having plenty of possession and a number of set-pieces, they couldn’t find a way past Tullis-Joyce or United’s solid defence.

This marks United’s third consecutive clean sheet in the league, putting them alongside Chelsea as the only teams with three wins from three in the WSL so far this season. On the other side, Spurs are starting to look more like a mid-table side rather than genuine European contenders, though they did show glimpses of promise this afternoon.
