Scotland: No let-up from Celtic in Perth

St Johnstone 0 - 6 Celtic

Celtic surged to the top of the Scottish Premiership after a resounding 6-0 victory against St Johnstone.

The defending champions initially believed they had scored early on through Daizen Maeda, but VAR disallowed the goal due to a foul in the build-up.

Kyogo Furuhashi eventually put the visitors in front with a typical run and finish and Paulo Bernardo completed an excellent move with a fine finish.

Kyogo then headed a third in first-half added time and Callum McGregor, Maeda and substitute Adam Idah added more goals in the second period.

Brendan Rodgers' side lead Aberdeen on goal difference at the top of the table while Saints are a point above second bottom.

Celtic looking unstoppable in Scotland. Positive signs for their Champions League campaign?

Celtic made several changes once again in their 5-2 Scottish League Cup victory over Falkirk last week, and it was a similar story in Perth, with the injured Cameron Carter-Vickers still a noticeable absentee.

However, unlike the Falkirk match, Celtic didn’t find themselves playing catch-up this time. They seized control early on, pushing forward even after the frustration of having a goal disallowed.

Kyogo, Kuhn, and Trusty all posed a threat, and once Celtic broke the deadlock, the question became how many they would score. Trusty came close with a shot wide, and McCowan had two near misses, including one that struck the post, as Celtic pressed for more.

At the other end, Kasper Schmeichel continued his unbeaten run in the Premiership, helping Rodgers' side match the club's record of six opening league wins without conceding a goal, a feat last achieved in the 1906-07 season.

Greg Taylor didn’t appear for the second half, with Valle stepping in at left-back. However, the Scotland international seemed to be moving comfortably during the full-time celebrations.

Next up for Celtic is a trip to Germany, where they will face a Borussia Dortmund side fresh from a 4-2 win over Bochum on Friday.

Claire, another Celtic fan from Glasgow, added: "This Celtic team is playing exceptional football, and I'm even more excited for Tuesday after today's game. I believe we all are."

Tommy, a St Johnstone fan, wasn't happy with what he witnessed from the home stand. He said: "That was a terrible performance. Celtic probably should have scored 10 or 11. I am really concerned about the direction that the season is starting to go. We need help."

Aimee Jones added: "The defending was disappointing, and we could have avoided some of the goals, we desperately need to improve our defending within the final third."
