The Big Discussion: Can Ipswich Town survive?

Despite a second defeat of the season, there is still plenty of optimism among Ipswich Town fans.

Ipswich took an early lead at the home of the reigning champions, with Sam Szmodics finding the net.

However, their advantage was quickly erased, and the match ultimately ended in a 4-1 victory for Pep Guardiola’s side.

The Big Discussion: Can Ipswich Town survive?

Reflecting on last week’s match against Liverpool, where the Reds scored twice in five minutes, the Ipswich manager emphasised the importance of learning to respond better when conceding a goal. He highlighted the need for similar lessons after today’s game, where City managed to score three goals in quick succession.

They have strengthened their squad

After the match, Ipswich announced the signing of Jack Clarke from Sunderland, marking their 10th acquisition in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old winger, who started his career at Leeds United, has joined on a five-year contract. Clarke made a significant impact at Sunderland, scoring 28 goals in 114 appearances. His initial loan move from Tottenham Hotspur was made permanent in 2022, following successful spells at QPR and Stoke City.

They still caused Manchester City some problems

Ipswich may feel hard done by after not being awarded a penalty when Davis appeared to be fouled by Savinho towards the end of the first half.

The upcoming match against Fulham, who visit Portman Road next Saturday, will be crucial in determining whether the Blues can hold their own in this division.

Marcus, an Ipswich Town Season Ticket holder, told us: "I think the fans are still very positive and excited about this season. We have played in parts against Liverpool and Manchester City, but they had too much quality for us. The on-loan signing of Kalvin Phillips brings some Premier League experience to the squad that is going to be very useful."

Will, another Ipswich fan, added: "Any points we pick up against the traditional big 6 is going to be a huge bonus. Our fight for survival in the Premier League will be achieved with victories against teams that will be spending time in the bottom-half."

Jamie, an Ipswich fan, told us: "Living the dream at the moment. It's hard to believe we were playing in League One two years ago. Now, I genuinely think we can survive in the Premier League."
