Scotland thrashed

Katie, a Scotland fan, said: "In a match where the Scotland players needed to exceed expectations and be nearly flawless, I must admit I am very disappointed. I felt the keeper could have done better with the first goal; it was somewhat of a gift. But overall, Scotland lacked the bravery I expected.

"In the qualifying stage against Spain, we saw that they could play bravely. However, this time, it seemed they had an inferiority complex. All the players were below par, and that is what concerns me. The players need to bounce back, but can they? That performance by Germany took the wind out of our sails."

Liam, a Manchester United fan, watched the match as a neutral: "Germany were brilliant in the first 20 minutes. They conceded but it’s a good sign from their perspective that their players complained about that. It's also strange that many were underestimating them at the start of the tournament. They were awesome and I think they can win the whole thing."

This was a view supported by William, a Liverpool fan from Bradford. He said: "The hosts were amazing in the first 20 minutes. Even though they conceded a goal, it was telling that their players were frustrated about it. Like Liam, I found it odd that so many people underestimated them at the start of the tournament. They were fantastic, and I believe they have a real chance of winning the whole thing."

Olivia Taylor from Chorlton in Greater Manchester added: "Germany can give any side a hard time. Scotland didn't help themselves though. They lacked a presence in the game, then we gave away a daft goal that was avoidable and the roof caved in."

Thomaz, a Germany fan, added: "That was amazing from us. There is every chance we can win Euro 2024. Just hope we don't get carried away."
