Jeffthered on the popular Manchester United forum RedCafe posted: "Although I had some hope and optimism, it was embarrassing to see them do that. There needs to be a bit of fight between the players because I don't see anything there at all. You cannot keep doing this. No way. The situation is quite alarming.

"That is a broken team, a broken, dysfunctional set of players who do not wish to be there. I'm feeling sad because I genuinely fear for our club this season. We are there for the taking. Every single team in the league will feel they can beat us."

Liam, a Manchester United Season Ticket holder, said: "Our players are simply not good enough. It was a tough game, yes, but we had opportunities to create chances and some possession in dangerous attacking areas, but we just weren't good enough to make it happen."

Kallum from Middleton in Greater Manchester is critical of United's entire strategy. In a passionate rant on Facebook, he said: " We are clueless when it comes to recruitment. It’s a disgusting waste. For the money we’ve spent we should have one of the best young and hungry teams in the world with other clubs looking enviously at the players developing at United the same way it was with Rooney and Ronaldo."

This was a similar view held by Olivia in Chorlton, South Manchester. The 30-year-old Season Ticket holder told us about how unhappy she was: "I just thought we approached the match with the wrong attitude. We did okay for a bit in the first half but didn't do enough to cause them many problems. The soft penalty didn't help us, but the way we defended after was awful."

Join Joe, Joe, Ronaldo & Ange from popular YouTube channel Stretford Paddock gave their thoughts on the match. Watch and listen in the video below.

Frank was positive about some aspects of United's performance. However, he is concerned with how they fell apart after the controversial penalty that had given City the lead. He told us:"First half, we played very well. The game plan went according to plan. We defended very well. They almost didn't create - one big save from Andre in that start. We had two or three breaks, and we took advantage of them. The penalty changed the game, However, I am concerned about what happened after that.

"Their power in the midfield allowed them to switch the game and put players in different positions. It was from here that they started to outplay us."
