Icons: Alex Scott

 It's time to explore another football icon.

This time, it will be our first female player with Alex Scott.

Alexandra Scott MBE is an English sports presenter, pundit, and former professional footballer. Known mainly as 'Alex Scott', she mostly played as a right-back for Arsenal. Scott made 140 appearances for the England national team and represented Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Becoming an Arsenal legend

At club level, Scott has had three separate spells with Arsenal, punctuated with a season at Birmingham City in 2004–05 and three years in the American Women's Professional Soccer with Boston Breakers. 

Scott was a key figure in Arsenal's historic "Quadruple" season in which they won every trophy they were involved in. In fact, they are the only team in the history of English football, across the men's and women's game, to win four major competitions in the same season.

In celebration of Alex Scott's stellar career, the Arsenal YouTube account in 2018 explored her journey from joining the club aged 8 to scoring in a Champions League final. 

International career

On 18 September 2004, Scott made her full debut for England against the Netherlands. She played in the 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017 editions of the UEFA European Women's Championship. In addition to the 2007, 2011 and 2015 FIFA Women's World Cups. She won silver at the 2009 UEFA Women's Euros and bronze at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.

In September 2017, Scott retired from international football. On the date of retirement, she finished her international career as the second most-capped England player. She is one of only four players to have worn the Three Lions shirt 140 times or more.

Lasting legacy

In 2019, Scott became a part of the English Football Hall of Fame. Since 2019, Scott has worked as a pundit for BBC Sport and Sky Sports and featured during the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. She also covers the English Premier League and even features as a reporter on the EA FC series of video games.
