Scotland: Celtic move closer to another Treble

 Celtic 1 - 0 Rangers

Celtic booked their place in the 2023 Scottish Cup final after a tense 1-0 win over Rangers.

Celtic on verge of another Treble

They will Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the first weekend of June as their hunt for another treble continues.

Jota was the hero for the Hoops, heading home from inside the six-yard box just three minutes before half-time.

A 50/50 split in the crowd meant, there was plenty of colour and noise on either side of Hampden Park. In the opening few minutes of the match, that incredible atmosphere carried on.

The opening 10 minutes were a cagey affair. Celtic's backline had to deal with a raft of aerial balls forward, but once Celtic got a hold of the ball their possession and composure followed.

Half-chances came and went for either side, but it was Allan McGregor that was the first to be tested on 27 minutes when Alistair Johnston let rip from 20 yards.

Rangers couldn't save their season.

At half-time, the team in blue knew they had 45 minutes to salvage their season and started the second period with increased intensity.

As the game was concluding, Joe Hart was beaten by a Tavernier shot from 18 yards, but the ball crashed against the post. Sakala then wasted a glorious opportunity by firing the follow-up into the side-netting.

Rangers then grew more desperate in search of a way back, Celtic sat deeper and deeper, absorbing everything their old foes could throw at them in the closing stages. They couldn't find that crucial goal and now they know that they face a trophyless season and some big questions about where they stand going forward.

Shaun Thompson, a Celtic fan from Dunfermline, told us: "That was a really solid performance from us. We worked hard off the ball, and they struggled to get back into it once Jota scored."

Patrick, a Celtic fan from Glasgow, added: "Let's get the title sorted next week, and then we can start looking forward to another cup final and hopefully another Treble."

Mark, a Rangers fan from Lancashire, said: "This almost felt like the end of era. These players have given us great success but now might be a good chance to start moving them on. Just take a look at Alfredo Morelos, he's done a great job for Rangers, but he's gone missing too often this season."
