France: PSG almost clinch title

 Auxerre 1  - 2 PSG

Paris St-Germain are on the verge of another Ligue 1 title after two goals from Kylian Mbappe secured victory over the struggling Auxerre on Sunday.

There is a big additional question that we ask at this end of this match report. What does the future have in store for PSG?

Auxerre 1 - 2 PSG

They are six points clear of second-placed Lens, and require just one point from their last two games to guarantee the title.

Top scorer Mbappe netted twice in the opening eight minutes for the visitors. Lassine Sinayoko responded for Auxerre, who remain in relegation trouble.

Mbappe has scored 40 goals and contributed nine assists in 41 matches this season.

The France international displayed great footwork as he twisted and turned in the box to create space for the opener, before bending in a sublime first-time strike two minutes later.

PSG, who have won eight of the past 10 Ligue 1 titles, equalled Marseille and Saint-Etienne's all-time record of 10 French titles last season.

What does the future have in store for the French champions-elect?

Despite virtually clinching the title, PSG's season has still raised several questions. How can they make the next step in the Champions League? PSG's owners will want to see their investment rewarded with victory in Europe's premier competition. Their exit to Bayern Munich in the last-16 would have been a huge concern.

There's also the Lionel Messi problem. A few weeks ago, he was suspended by the club for two weeks after making a trip without the club's permission this week.

Some of the best reaction

The English language version of the PSG Twitter account posted this after the match ended.

Christian Ilekenri commented on YouTube:  "Mbappe might not get that respect he is having at PSG elsewhere, he is just too good."

Joana is a PSG fan who now lives in London. She told us: "It's an interesting situation that the club finds itself in. It's great that we are close to another title, but I fear we are stalling slightly. Maybe, it's time we change our transfer policy and sign some younger players instead of superstars like Lionel Messi."
