Premier League news: Tottenham sack interim manager

What is happening with Tottenham Hotspur?

The official Twitter account posted the picture of the corner flag. You know something big is about to go down.

Interim manager Cristian Stellini has been sacked by Tottenham Hotspur after four matches in charge. The decision comes a day after they were thrashed 6-1 at Newcastle. A performance that saw many fans leave the ground after only 20 minutes.

They are currently fifth in the Premier League table. Despite only being six points behind both Newcastle in third and Manchester United in fourth, very few fans will be expecting them to qualify for next season's Champions League.

This was a season that started so promising for them. It quickly turned into a nightmare and Daniel Levy felt he has been forced into changing manager again.

Look away Spurs fans. Highlights from yesterday.

A statement on the Tottenham Hotspur website reads:

"Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable. It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the Board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.

"Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.Ryan Mason will take over Head Coach duties with immediate effect."

Fan reaction

As you can see from some of those comments. Tottenham fans are very annoyed with the situation at the club.

"I have never felt more distant from the club."

Those were the words of Greg, a Spurs fan from Yorkshire. He went on to say: "The last few weeks have been shambolic. This includes almost everyone within the club. The players have been awful, the coaching staff have made some bizarre decisions. However, I'd argue the biggest issue comes from Daniel Levy."

"Our season is now basically over."

Darren is also a Spurs annoyed with the current situation at the club. He believes the season is now over and they should planning for the summer transfer window. He added: "We played without any kind of a plan at St James' Park, but that was hardly a surprise after what we've already seen from the team in recent weeks. We are a complete mess. The only shock is that we haven't suffered this level of defeat for a while. Our season is now basically over."
