Wrexham were on the verge of reaching the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in 26 years. However, John Egan popped up in the fifth minute of stoppage time to break their hearts. This was cruel to Wrexham and their fans. However, you'd have to argue that Sheffield United deserved a draw in the end.

Wrexham recover from a nightmare start

The National League leaders battled back from conceding after just 63 seconds and losing two defenders in quick succession at the start of the game to edge in front and then. When Sheffield United then equalised, Wrexham summoned another massive effort to lead again with four minutes to go after capitalising on Daniel Jebbison’s earlier red card.

Another day in the crazy history of the Welsh side

Wrexham have a rich history of FA Cup giant-killing. Arsenal were their most famous victim in 1992. However, it was clear they were going to have to do it the hard way to claim another scalp. Everyone was hooked and willing Wrexham to win this dramatic encounter but Sheffield United's John Egan had the final say and will take the game to a replay.

Who said that?

Wrexham's joint owner Ryan Reynolds tweeted: "When @RMcElhenney and I got into this it all felt so impossible. But impossible is Wrexham’s favourite colour. That was one of the most exciting things I’ve EVER seen. Thank you to each and every Wrexham supporter who came out and aimed your heart at that pitch tonight."

There was this interesting reply to that tweet: "Nothing puts a town or place on the map like its football club. Who would have heard of Blackburn, Burnley or Brentford if it weren’t for their football club? I hope you make it to the very top."

One YouTuber and Sheffield United fan commented: "That was a proper cup tie. There was a good atmosphere up there. Just glad we're still in the competition."

Mark, a 75 year old Wrexham who lives in Chester, said: "I am so proud of the club today. I can't wait for the replay now."
