Premier League: Arsenal hold on at Elland Road

 Leeds United 0 - 1 Arsenal

Arsenal held on to win at Leeds in a dramatic finish to a remarkable Premier League football match

The match had been delayed by about 40 minutes because of a power outag at Elland Road

There was additional drama in added time when the referee sent off Arsenal's Gabriel for kicking out at Leeds striker Patrick Bamford. The offivial awarded Leeds a penalty. However; both decisions were overturned after Kavanagh reviewed the incident on the pitchside monitor.

Earlier, the same official halted the match after only 23 seconds of play because of a power cut at Elland Road. This meant that he lost communication with the VAR officials.

The game eventually got started and Saka was shining

Bukayo Saka scored the winning goal in the first half by punishing Rodrigo's loose pass, exchanging passes with Martin Odegaard before scoring at the near post.

Bamford was sent on at the start of the second half and the Englishman almost made an immediate impact but his close-range strike was ruled out for a push on Gabriel.

Before the stoppage-time controversy, Leeds were awarded a penalty when William Saliba was adjudged to have handled the ball, but Bamford dragged his effort wide.

Leeds piled on the pressure and Luis Sinisterra's goal-bound shot was blocked by Gabriel, while Brenden Aaronson's arrowed strike from long range was pushed away by Aaron Ramsdale.

Great start for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta's side are now four points clear after making a highly impressive start to the campaign which has seen them collect nine victories from 10 Premier League games. There's a question that everyone is now asking though. Can Arsenal win the Premier League?

Who said what?

Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports: "Hectic! It is always really intense here, we were exceptional in the first half and should have been two or three up. Credit to Leeds in the second half, we made so many errors and did not generate momentum but I just love the relentless passion the team played with and how we found a way to win."

One Arsenal fan told us: "It was a really good win and performance. We are really growing in confidence now!"

It was reported that the Leeds manager said: "We're disappointed and frustrated. However, also proud of the way we played. This business is about collecting points and not just performances but that was a showcase of the way we can play when we're at our best."
