FA Cup: Shrewsbury angry at fan chants

Shrewsbury Town have condemned a small number of their supporters for some of the chants sung prior to Sunday's FA Cup defeat at Liverpool.

The statement on the club website reads:

Shrewsbury Town Football Club is disgusted and appalled to see and hear the reports on social media about the vile and offensive chanting and behaviour of a very small minority of our 'supporters' yesterday.

These people do not represent our Club in any way shape or form and we are liaising with West Mercia Police to try and identify those responsible who will in turn liaise with Merseyside Police.

If any supporters have any information that might assist us in identifying those responsible, they can contact the Club confidentially and we will use the information as part of our investigations with the Police authorities.

One fan commented: "These simply aren't the real Shrewsbury fans. Those chants were horrible.

On the pitch

Liverpool had to come from behind Shrewsbury to reach the next round of the cup. The Premier League side were shocked by Daniel Udoh's opener for the visitors.

Kaide Gordon quickly levelled, before Fabinho fired Liverpool ahead with a penalty  just before half-time. Roberto Firmino's backheel and Fabinho's late second wrapped up what turned out to be a comfortable win.
