World Cup qualifying: England 1 - 1 Hungary

England's path to the 2022 World Cup hit a stumbling block when they were held to a 1-1 draw against Hungary.

In a slightly subdued atmosphere once order had been restored (more on that further down this story).  Hungary took the lead in the 24th minute when Luke Shaw fouled Loic Nego and Roland Sallai sent Jordan Pickford the wrong way from the penalty spot.

England were level on 37 minutes afted John Stones turned in at the far post after Tyrone Mings and Declan Rice touched on Phil Foden's free-kick.

Game marred by crowd violence

Hungary fans fought with police in the opening minutes of their World Cup qualifier against England at Wembley.

Almost 1,000 Hungary fans booed as the England players took the knee before kick-off.

The Metropolitan Police said "minor disorder" broke out as they arrested a fan for "a racially aggravated public order offence" in relation to comments directed towards a steward.

A statement released from FIFA said: "First and foremost, FIFA strongly rejects any form of racism and violence and has a very clear zero tolerance stance for such behaviour in football.

"FIFA will take adequate actions as soon as it receives match reports concerning yesterday’s Hungary-England game.

"With regards to the previous UEFA sanction against Hungary, please note that as specified by UEFA at the time, this sanction is to be served in UEFA competitions."

Prior to FIFA releasing its statement to condemn the actions of those responsible, Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to Twitter to urge FIFA to take action against those involved.

"It is completely unacceptable that England players were racially abused in Hungary last night," Johnson said.
