Premier League news: Watford appoint Claudio Ranieri as new manager

Watford have appointed Claudio Ranieri as their new manager after sacking Xisco Munoz

This is the 14th managerial change under Watford's owners, the Pozzo family, since they took over the club in 2012.

The Italian has a wealth of experience with Watford being his 21st club in a long managerial career. In that time he has won eight trophies. Perhaps his famous was winning the Premier League with Leicester in 2016. 

He also managed Chelsea and was in charge of the club when Roman Abramovich took over at Stamford Bridge.

This is how Watford announced the appointment.

They also posted this video looking at Ranieri's success throughout his careet.

One Twitter account also posted this as a joke: " Claudio Ranieri is expected to be named Watford's new manager, he is then expected to be replaced by Quique Sanchez Flores in January, who will be replaced by Javi Gracia in March, Xisco Munoz will then come back for the final two games of the season."

The Watford Talk  Twitter account posted this interesting statistic: "Xisco Munoz leaves as the manager with our all-time highest win %, and our fourth manager to secure promotion to the top flight. Thanks for everything!"

How bad have things been for Watford?

Despite their track record of sacking managers, many Watford fans have been surprised by the timing of this announcement. They were perhaps unlucky not to get at least a draw against Leeds United. How can Ranieri improve their fortunes?
