Premier League: Liverpool 2 - 2 Manchester City

Liverpool and Manchester City produced the game of the season so far with an absorbing encounter at Anfield.

All four goals came in the second 45 minutes with City twice pegging Liverpool back. You can see some of the best moments from the game in the video below.

Both teams will ultimately feel they might have won this game. Manchester City’s attack looks like it can cause problems for any team in the world but you'd still have to wonder if City's main weakness is their lack of an out and out striker.

There was some top-class football on show from both sides but there were some controversial moments. James Milner will know he was extremely lucky not to be sent off here for persistent fouling before he was eventually substituted just after 70 minutes.

Reaction from the men in charge

The Liverpool manager said after the match: "Probably less than average, we were too passive with and without the ball and played right into City's hands. That was the worst half we have played against them.

"I was more than pleased when I heard the whistle for half time because we had to adjust a lot of things and we did.

This is the place for all the latest Liverpool news.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola then spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live: "If you ask me about the points of course I am happy if you ask me about the performance I am more than happy.

"The way we have played the last three games has been magnificent. We have played a lot of players and they have all played with personality and personality and unfortunately, we could not win.

"We overcame two results, 1-0 down and 2-1 down and incredible personality from the team.

Social media posts

As expected, this match was spoken about heavily on Twitter. This is what was being discussed on LFC TV.

Manchester City's Phil Foden posted this on Twitter: "We fight to the end! Had to battle today, great to get on the scoresheet again."

Does it mean anything?

Liverpool will be disappointed with the first-half performance that they didn't hold on for the three points. They will be happy that they improved in the second half. The defence of the title won in 2020 was poor. They will be hoping to be closer by the end of the season.
