Ligue 1 reaction: Rennes 2 - 0 PSG

Despite winning their first eight games in Ligue 1 and then beating Manchester City, some fans had yet to be truly convinced by PSG this season.

Let's have a look at some of the best reactions from around the world as PSG lost their first league game of the season.

What did the managers and players say?

PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino and their captain gave some thoughts and opinions on the match to the club's social media channels.

Things on social media were a lot more positive from the Rennes. A Guardian article looks at how they approached the game differently compared to most teams: "They adopted a different approach. When they lost possession, they reverted to a low block, which PSG could not break down."

A translation of Bruno Genesio's post match interview states: "We played the game we needed, there was everything to beat this team."

Where did it go wrong for the away side?

Many experts believe that former Spurs manager Pochettino needs to find the right balance in his team. All four of PSG’s star forwards started at Rennes alongside winger-masquerading-as-a-right-back Hakimi, who has already been benched in favour of balance this term.

When they start with a team like this, it borders on untenable given the space it leaves in full-back areas and by their midfield. You also mention their legendary forwards’ reluctance to always defend as they should.

It could be an interesting season for their star studded squad. They proved they can perform against the very best in that famous 2-0 over Manchester City.  This defeat proves that they are beatable and will provide hope for opposition players and teams across Europe.
