FA Cup: Manchester City recover from Real Madrid defeat

Image
Manchester City 1 - 0 Chelsea City have progressed to another FA Cup final. Let's explore all the best reaction to the match. Manchester City managed to recover from the disappointment of being knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by Real Madrid.  For Silva, it was a moment of redemption following his earlier penalty miss that contributed to City's loss to Real. The Portuguese midfielder netted the winning goal, meeting Kevin de Bruyne's cross at the far post six minutes before the final whistle. Chelsea will rue missed opportunities, particularly by striker Nicolas Jackson, as they once again endured a heart-wrenching experience at Wembley. This defeat comes after their loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final. Adding to Chelsea's frustration was the belief that they should have been awarded a penalty in the second half. They felt aggrieved when Jack Grealish's hand appeared to block Cole Palmer's free-kick, but the video assistant refere...

UCL: Chelsea cruise to win over AC Milan

Image
Chelsea 3 - 0 AC Milan This was an even more comfortable win for the Blues than the scoreline suggests. Graham Potter made two changes to his side, with Jorginho and Kai Havertz missing out due to slight injury problems, but both were okay for a place on the bench. Edouard Mendy returned among the substitutes, as Kepa Arrizabalaga continued in goal. Kalidou Koulibaly came into the defence to join Wesley Fofana and Thiago Silva in a back three. After a couple of close calls, it was midway through the first half that the breakthrough arrived. Thiago Silva quickly forced a save and a block when getting his head to a series of set-pieces, but on the third occasion Milan couldn't clear and Fofana was in the right place to put the ball in the net after a scramble around the penalty spot. Mason Mount thought he had made it two soon afterwards with a lovely chip over the keeper, but it was disallowed for offside. The home side pulled away to safety in the second half, though, as Pierr...

UCL: Chelsea exit Champions League with a whimper

Image
Chelsea 0 - 2 Real Madrid (0-4 on aggregate) Chelsea went out of the Champions League with a whimper.  The current European champions dispatched them easily with another 2-0 victory in their quarter-final clash as Lampard failed to mastermind an almighty comeback. The home side had plenty of chances, with Marc Cucurella superbly denied by Thibaut Courtois in the closing stages of a positive first half as far as the hopeful hosts were concerned. However, it felt like only a matter of time before Carlo Ancelotti's side punished the Blues and in the 57th minute they did, as Rodrygo finished off a ruthless attack. He then bagged another in the dying embers, ending the contest, making it Chelsea's worst run of form in 30 years. The home team took the lead in the 13th minute after Malo Gusto's impressive play led to Mykhailo Mudryk slotting the ball home from close range. However, Palace equalized just before half-time when Michael Olise converted Jordan Ayew's cross into a bottom corner screamer. Despite numerous chances, Chelsea struggled to convert, raising concerns that their profligate finishing might haunt them for the second consecutive match under manager Mauricio Pochettino. In the 77th minute, Nicolas Jackson thought he had scored, only for VAR to rule him offside after poking in Thiago Silva's deep cross. In a tense finale, Chelsea finally got the breakthrough when VAR spotted a foul by Eberechi Eze on substitute Madueke inside the box.
