Premier League: New Brighton boss makes impressive start

Image
Everton 0 - 3 Brighton & Hove Albion Brighton's young manager, Fabian Hurzeler, made an impressive start to his Premier League career, delivering a victory that left Everton's final season at Goodison Park off to a dismal start. Everton, who have called Goodison Park home since 1892, will be relocating to a new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock at the beginning of next season. Everton fans created a fantastic atmosphere before the match. At just 31, Hurzeler became the Premier League's youngest-ever permanent manager, and his Brighton team showed no mercy towards their opponents. The first half was fiercely contested, with tackles flying in from both sides. Everton's Jack Harrison had an early goal disallowed for offside, while Brighton's Joao Pedro struck the post with a powerful low shot. Brighton took the lead through Kaoru Mitoma's simple finish at the back post, following excellent work from debutant Yankuba Minteh, who had been linked with a move to E...

PL News: Brighton appoint new manager

Image
Brighton have appointed Fabian Hurzeler as their new manager. They have made him the youngest full-time boss in Premier League history. Hurzeler, who led St Pauli to the Bundesliga 2 title last season with 20 wins out of 34 matches, has signed a contract running until 2027. He will join the team once he receives his work permit, just in time for Brighton's pre-season preparations in July. If any club was likely to appoint a 31-year-old manager, younger than their captain and several key players, it would be Brighton. The club has a reputation for pushing boundaries and thinking outside the box to compete with bigger, richer, and more established Premier League teams. Hurzelerā€™s CV may not be extensive, but it includes notable success and a commitment to a playing style similar to that of his predecessors, De Zerbi and Graham Potter. Manchester City lose again

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 2 - 1 Manchester City Pep Guardiola endured a fourth consecutive defeat for the first time in his Manchester City tenure, as Brighton staged a comeback to overcome the Premier League champions. It marks Cityā€™s first run of four successive losses since 2006. Author - Macca City looked set to break their losing streak when Erling Haaland found the net in the 23rd minute at the Amex Stadium, finishing on his second attempt from Mateo Kovacic's pass in a promising start. Brighton, however, kept their composure and gained control after the interval. Poor finishing prevented them from equalising earlier, but substitute Joao Pedro eventually struck amidst a goalmouth scramble 12 minutes from time. City, showing signs of vulnerability, were soon under immense pressure. Brighton claimed a deserved lead when Matt O'Riley , recently returned from injury since joining from Celtic, sliced through Cityā€™s exposed defence and slotted past Ederson just five minut...

Forest reach first FA Cup semi since 1991

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 0 - 0 Nottingham Forest.  Nottingham Forest won 4-3 on penalties. Forest held their nerve in yet another FA Cup penalty shootout, edging past Brighton to book a place in the semi-finals for the first time since 1991. Author - Kieran M Stadium - Amex Stadium Goalkeeper Matz Sels was the hero of the night, producing crucial saves to deny Jack Hinshelwood and Diego Gomez as Forest triumphed 4-3 on spot-kicks after a goalless 120 minutes at the Amex Stadium. In a match desperately lacking in quality, neither side could break the deadlock in normal time, with Brighton looking the more likely to snatch a late winner. Sels, however, had other ideasā€”his superb reaction save to deny a bullet header from Gomez in extra time kept Forest in the contest. The hosts thought they had won it at the death when Joao Pedro bundled in Pervis EstupiƱƔnā€™s delivery, but the goal was ruled out for offside, ensuring the tie would be settled from the spot. Premier League: Brighton and Forest maintain unbeaten starts

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 2 - 2 Nottingham Forest Both Brighton and Nottingham Forest maintained their unbeaten Premier League runs in an almost chaotic match which saw one player and both managers sent off.  The match at Amex Stadium ended with four goals, but in controversial fashion as Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White received a second yellow card for a sliding challenge on Brighton's Joao Pedro.  Referee Rob Jones then showed red cards to Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler and Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo for their reactions to the incident. Premier League: 2024/2025 season (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) A closer look at what happened The visitors took the lead when former Brighton striker Chris Wood scored against his old club with a well-taken penalty kick after Carlos Baleba tripped Callum Hudson-Odoi in the penalty area. However, two goals in a three-minute span just before half-time seemed to change the course of the match. Nineteen-year-old midfielder Jack Hinshel...

Premier League: Brighton fight back to stun Spurs

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 3 - 2 Tottenham Hotspur Brighton staged a stunning comeback, overturning a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling victory over Tottenham in a gripping Premier League clash on the south coast. Spurs appeared to be cruising towards a sixth consecutive win in all competitions, having taken a well-earned 2-0 lead by the 37th minute. Brennan Johnson broke the deadlock with his sixth goal in six games, timing his run perfectly to latch onto Dominic Solankeā€™s through ball before calmly slotting it past Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen. Verbruggen was then left frustrated as he failed to prevent James Maddisonā€™s curled effort from nestling in the net, despite getting both hands to the low shot, doubling Spursā€™ advantage. However, Brighton came out after the interval looking like a different team. They quickly clawed one back early in the second half when Destiny Udogie struggled to clear Kaoru Mitoma's cross, allowing Yankuba Minteh to pounce and score his f...

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 3 - 0 Chelsea Kaoru Mitoma scored a sensational opener as Brighton loosened Chelsea's grip on a place in the top four of the Premier League with their second win over the Stamford Bridge club within a week. Author - Lauren W Stadium - Amex Stadium The result means the Seagulls, who also knocked Enzo Maresca's side out of the FA Cup last Saturday, move up to eighth in the table. They are now only four points behind Manchester City in fifth. There's still a chance that finishing fifth could earn someone a Champions League place for next season. A closer look at what happened Mitoma set the home side on their way, superbly controlling goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen's long pass forward with a fantastic touch. He then cut inside Trevoh Chalobah and curling a low effort past Filip Jorgensen into the right corner of the Chelsea net. A Brighton win never looked in doubt from that point. They deservedly recorded their first home league win since Novem...

Everton battle for win away at Brighton

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 0 - 1 Everton Iliman Ndiayeā€™s first-half penalty proved decisive as Everton edged closer to safety with a hard-fought victory at Brighton, marking David Moyes' 700th Premier League match in charge. Author - Sarah W  Stadium - Amex Stadium The breakthrough came seven minutes before the interval when Brighton defender Joel Veltman appeared to shepherd the ball out of play with his hand under pressure from Beto in the penalty area. After being advised by VAR to review the incident on the pitchside monitor, referee Tim Robinson awarded the penalty. Ndiaye coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner, notching his fifth Premier League goal of the campaign. Brighton offered little in the first half but emerged for the second with more intent. Kaoru Mitoma curled an effort narrowly wide of the far post, while Joao Pedro saw his close-range strike scrambled behind by a combination of Orel Mangala and Jordan Pickford. Substitute Georginio Rutter also came cl...

Brighton & Hove Albion v Arsenal preview Brighton host Arsenal at the Amex in Saturdayā€™s late kick-off, eager to end a winless run of eight matches that has seen them slip to 10th in the Premier League table. Author - DJ When Arsenal beat Brighton last season The Seagulls have drawn five of their last seven games, including their most recent three against West Ham, Brentford, and Aston Villa. However, theyā€™ll be wary of matching an unwanted recordā€”Brighton havenā€™t drawn four league games in a row since October 2014, back when they were in the Championship under the management of former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia. Currently, Brighton find themselves 12 points adrift of Saturdayā€™s visitors.
