The home side stunned Madrid with an early strike from Francisco Chiquinho, who drove in a crisp effort from 20 yards. That advantage lasted only until MbappĂ© seized control of the evening, scoring three times in seven minutes to register the second fastest hat-trick in the competition’s history.
He began by racing on to Vinicius Junior’s measured through-ball and finishing with composure, before rising to meet Arda GĂĽler’s cross with a firm header. His third came when he timed his run perfectly to latch on to Eduardo Camavinga’s pass and steer the ball beyond the goalkeeper.
Vinicius briefly thought he had added another after being played in by Mbappé, yet the effort was ruled out for offside against the French forward. Aurélien Tchouaméni struck the bar as Real, missing five defenders and their first-choice goalkeeper through injury and illness, continued to dictate the tempo.
Olympiacos refused to fold
They were lifted by a powerful header from substitute Mehdi Taremi. MbappĂ© restored Madrid’s cushion with a close-range finish from another Vinicius pass, but Ayoub El Kaabi’s late header ensured a tense finale.
The victory ends a three-match winless run for Madrid in all competitions and secures their first competitive win in Athens at the tenth attempt. Carlo Ancelotti’s side sit fifth in the standings, three points behind leaders Arsenal, while Olympiacos remain 33rd with two points.
