The Manchester United perspective

Europa League 24/25 - MUFC v Lyon

Unbeaten in the Europa League this season, Man Utd have mixed commanding performances and dramatic comebacks on their road to the Europa League final,

The Red Devils won this competition under Ruben Amorim's compatriot JosĂ© Mourinho in 2017, but more will remember the 2021 final defeat to Villarreal under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Bruno Fernandes captained the side in Gdansk, while Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelöf started. Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo watched on from the bench. In fact, Amad has two runners up medals in the competition after losing the final with Rangers during a loan spell in 2022.

Olivia T said: "I honestly can't predict this. We've been so poor in domestic games throughout the season. We've looked almost a competent football team in this competition. Which pattern will the game follow. I think we'll just have enough with Fernandes and Amad to win the game."

Can Spurs end their long wait for a trophy?

Europa League 24/25 - Spurs v Frankfurt

Tottenham were preparing for their last European final when an all-English final last took place in this competition in 2019, the result a 4-1 Chelsea win over Arsenal. Spurs contested an all-English final of their own three days later, but dreams of a historic first Champions League title were dashed by a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool. Ultimately, Spurs didn't show up then.

Hopes of a happier return to a European showpiece and a first continental honour since 1984 are boosted by the fine form of Ange Postecoglou's men against their final opponents. In the 2024/2025 campaign, Spurs were victorious through two Premier League meetings and an English League Cup quarter-final against Man Utd this season.

Greg S, a Spurs fan, told us: "This could be 4-4 and one of the greatest finals ever or finish 0-0 and be one of the worst. It's clear that both sides have had poor domestic seasons and have saved their best performances for this competition. On the night, we might just edge it."
