His time at Old Trafford was marked by spectacular goals that not only highlighted his skill but also often proved crucial in the team's success. Here, we will explore some of his best goals for the club, showcasing the diverse nature of his striking prowess. Post match Rooney back in 2008. It also gave United a point in a match that they probably deserved to lose.  Manchester City (2011)  He loved a goal against Manchester City. Premier League: Palace win at Old Trafford again

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Crystal Palace Manchester United suffered their second consecutive home defeat in the Premier League as Crystal Palace secured an impressive victory at Old Trafford, thanks to Joachim Andersen's outstanding strike. These two teams had clashed just five days earlier, with Erik ten Hag's side comfortably winning 3-0 in the Carabao Cup . However, Palace had rested several key players for that match and presented a different challenge on Saturday, delivering an excellent away performance. Palace took the lead after Tyrick Mitchell cleared Rasmus Hojlund's shot off the line. Andersen then brilliantly fired a first-time shot into the top corner from a free-kick. Despite Manchester United's relentless pressure, t hey struggled to breach Palace's defence. When they did manage to break through, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made crucial saves, first tipping Bruno Fernandes' dipping shot over the bar and then denying Hojlund's powerful header.

Premier League: Man United seal Champions League place

Manchester United 4 - 1 Chelsea Manchester United confirmed their place in the top four of the Premier League after cruising past Chelsea with a 4-1 win at Old Trafford. There was a great atmosphere at Old Trafford Casemiro gave his side the perfect start with a towering header from a Christian Eriksen set-piece after just six minutes, and while the visitors provided a threat in the first half, particularly as the break drew closer. United scored a second goal at a crucial time as Anthony Martial doubled the Red Devils lead deep into stoppage time. Erik ten Hag’s side came out strongly again after the interval, dominating the play but for David De Gea being called into a couple of saves. The Theatre of Dreams turned jubilant as their side steamed ahead with two more goals later in the half. UCL: Ronaldo rescues Manchester United

Image
Cristiano Ronaldo scored with almost the last kick of the match as Manchester United came from behind to beat Villarreal. The repeat of last season's Europa League final looked to be heading for a draw but summer signing Ronaldo stroked home from Jesse Lingard's lay-off to spark some incredible scenes. Watch the highlights in the video below This United side still looked to be papering over the cracks as they once again failed to find any real cohesion in the final third of the pitch. Ronaldo, Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho and Paul Pogba all started in front of a passionate Old Trafford crowd. There seems to be little connection between a the clearly talented attacking line-up. For all the clear problems though, they still managed to find a way to win the match. How one Champions League campaign helped create a legend

Image
This is the latest in our ' big discussion ' series of articles. Here, we will examine Porto's Champions League success in 2004 and ask whether a similar type of success can happen again. Mourinho celebrates in 2004. Photo from  mohamedkaka | Flickr Over the last twenty years, the Champions League has been dominated by a relatively small pool of teams from a limited number of countries. However, it wasn't always like this. Teams like Porto have a proud record in European competition, with their last Champions League victory in 2004. At that time, they were led by a man with a growing reputation. This was José Mourinho. How big an achievement was this in 2004? Porto has struggled to compete with the best in Europe in recent seasons. It is often anticipated that they may struggle to get out of the group stage on occasion. During the upcoming campaign, if you were betting on the Champions League, you would have seen that they were considered huge outsiders. Since Porto

Premier League: Man United strengthen their bid for a top-four finish

Image
Manchester United 2 - 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers Manchester United bounced back from consecutive Premier League to strengthen their bid for a top-four finish. Erik ten Hag's side had lost to Brighton and West Ham to give Liverpool hope of finishing in the top 4. However, despite a far-from-perfect performance, United never looked like losing again. Antony provided the assist for United's first-half breakthrough. He was played in by Bruno Fernandes, and the winger squared to Anthony Martial for what was an easy tap-in. More Premier League news can be found here:  Premier League news (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Antony had another opportunity to get on the scoresheet in the second half but he drove a shot just wide of the post after being set up by a Fernandes backheel. Substitute Garnacho finally got Manchester United's second when the teenager raced through in the fourth minute of stoppage time before firing past Dan Bentley. As the full-time whistle blew, everyone

Carabao Cup: Manchester United 0 - 1 West Ham United

West Ham gained revenge for Sunday's defeat against Manchester United by knocking them out of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford. Manuel Lanzini's ninth-minute effort, his first goal in almost a year proved enough to take David Moyes' men into the last 16 of the competition. Watch the extended highlights below. It was the first Old Trafford triumph for the Hammers since Carlos Tevez's winner in 2007 kept them in the Premier League. It was their first victory over Man United at Old Trafford in a cup competition since Paolo di Canio scored the only goal in 2001. The defeat for the Red Devils came after Solskjaer picked a completely different side  to the one that was on duty at the London Stadium only a few days earlier. Last day drama: Throwback to 1999

Image
Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham (May 1999) Let's explore a a previous day of drama on the last day of a Premier League season. In May 1999, Manchester United secured their fifth championship in seven years with victory at Old Trafford on what was a tense final day of the season. Goals from David Beckham and Andy Cole ultimately proved enough to give Ferguson's team the three points they needed to claim the crown. Second-placed Arsenal beat Aston Villa 1-0 at Highbury. Throughout the 90 minutes the result was never totally secure and Tottenham, who had taken a shock lead through Les Ferdinand, were never out of the match. This was to the annoyance of the Tottenham fans who were quite happy for United to win and see North London rivals Arsenal miss out on the title.  For United, this was the first part of what was an historic few days. They would go on to clinch the FA Cup and Champions League, becoming the first English team to win The Treble.  OTD 99 - United go behind t

Ten Hag took the bold decision to drop captain Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo and was rewarded with a performance that lifted the mood of crisis around Manchester United and leave Liverpool still searching for a first win of the season. Jadon Sancho showed superb control and composure to deservedly put United in front after 16 minutes before Marcus Rashford raced clear to beat Alisson from substitute Anthony Martial's pass eight minutes after the interval. Mo Salah set up a tense finish when he scrambled in a header with nine minutes left but United survive

Premier League: United start season with a win

Manchester United 1 - 0 Fulham Joshua Zirkzee quickly became an Old Trafford favourite by scoring an 87th-minute winner against Fulham. The former Bologna striker was brought on alongside Alejandro Garnacho after an hour, as United struggled to break down Marco Silva's side. With time running out, the duo combined brilliantly, with the Argentine winger delivering a cross from the right that Zirkzee expertly guided into the bottom corner, dealing a crushing blow to Fulham.United had a slow start, with Andre Onana forced to tip a Kenny Tete effort over the bar early on. But as the match progressed, United posed the greater threat. Fulham's goalkeeper Bernd Leno was in fine form, making three crucial saves to deny United. First, he thwarted Bruno Fernandes , drawing visible frustration from the Portuguese midfielder.  Then, it was Mason Mount's turn. His attempt was also stopped by Leno after a cross from Marcus Rashford. Despite these setbacks, United were determined to

EFL Cup: United impress against Palace

Image
Manchester United 3 - 0 Crystal Palace Holders United moved into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup after goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Casemiro before Martial's clinical first-time effort 10 minutes after the restart. After a few weeks of chaos, this was the kind of night United manager Erik ten Hag must have wanted as his side clinched their most significant win of the season. With Mason Mount back in the starting XI and fellow summer signing Sofyan Amrabat making his first start, Ten Hag was at least able to integrate some key pieces of his United puzzle. There were also plenty of examples of controlled possession, which Ten Hag has so far struggled to implement. Evidently, the game plan was to create an overload on the United right with lofted cross-field passes from the left, which both Amrabat and Mount were able to execute. Morocco international Amrabat caught the eye as an inverted left-back. The on-loan Fiorentina man's early shot was poor, but he was excellent

Manchester United 2 - 3 Galatasaray  Manchester United have endured a tough run of form this season.  It took a turn for the worse  as they suffered a defeat to Galatasaray in the Champions League at Old Trafford. Mauro Icardi delivered a crucial blow in the 81st minute, securing the Turkish giants their historic first-ever victory on English soil. Despite missing an earlier penalty opportunity to put the visitors in front at Old Trafford, Icardi showed his clinical side by capitalizing on Davinson Sanchez's header, lofting a shot past United's goalkeeper Andre Onana. This marked United's sixth loss in 10 games this season, with the team now facing its second defeat in the opening two matches of Group A in the Champions League. Adding to the woes of their manager, Erik ten Hag, his team had twice taken the lead thanks to goals from Rasmus Hojlund in both halves. On both occasions, Galatasaray responded swiftly to level the score. Furthermore, the situation escalated when

The Big Discussion: The Fight for the Soul of Manchester United

Image
The recent news that the Glazer family are selling Manchester United has created a lot of rehashed discussion, enhancing a lot of debates created back when the American family first bought the club.  Twitter user @Heathen1878 explores this and the current state of affairs regarding Manchester United. Warning and disclaimer - The views here are of the writer, not us. He's more than happy to discuss points made on his Twitter.  It was around September 2021 when I arrived back in Manchester for the first time since March 2020. I landed on the morning of Man United's Premier League game against Newcastle. It was also Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the club. I stopped going to Old Trafford in 2005 and have only been back once. I stopped going due to the Glazer takeover and general sadness with the way modern football is going.  It was at this point that I really realised how much United's support had changed over recent times and also wondered what this might mean for t

Premier League: United errors cost them against Liverpool

Image
Manchester United 0 - 3 Liverpool  Manchester United suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Liverpool at Old Trafford. The match saw United struggle against their arch-rivals, with costly errors leading to Liverpool's goals.  The Red Devils finished the game having had more possession than the opposition but were still defeated comfortably. They looked incapable of putting more than five passes together with Liverpool regularly winning the ball back.  Ten Hag's side have lost two of their opening three matches of a Premier League campaign for the third time in the last five seasons (also happening in 2020-21 and 2022-23), with Erik ten Hag the only manager to suffer that fate twice with the club since the Premier League was formed in 1992.  A closer look at what happened Trent Alexander-Arnold had a goal disallowed for offside before Luis Diaz scored two quick goals just before halftime to give Liverpool a strong lead. Salah scored his 12th goal in 15 appearances a

Transfer latest from Old Trafford

With an extensive rebuild being expected at Old Trafford, let's have a look at what might be happening Frenkie de Jong latest The Guardian are reporting that Manchester United are confident Barcelona will lower their €85m (£73m) asking price for Frenkie de Jong because of the Catalan club’s difficult financial position and the lack of other suitors for the midfielder. After Barcelona last week rejected an initial United offer of €60m (£51.3m) plus a potential €10m in add-ons, the club may make a second bid of about €70m plus add-ons for the 25-year-old. This video from UnitedPeoplesTV explores the story in more detail. Transfer News: Everton reject Branthwaite bid from Man United

Image
More transfer news from Old Trafford and Goodison Park Everton have turned down a second offer from Manchester United, this time around £45m, for their defender Jarrad Branthwaite . Last month, the Toffees also rejected a £35m bid from United for the 22-year-old England international. It's believed that United's revised offer included potential additional payments if certain targets were achieved. This still falls short of Everton's valuation. Branthwaite has shone as a left-sided central defender at Goodison Park, playing a crucial role in helping the Merseyside club avoid relegation last season despite two points deductions for breaching financial loss rules. United are eager to bolster their central defence options and have been in talks over Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt , who is currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024. With Raphael Varane having left the club, there has been no confirmation yet of a new one-year deal for veteran Northern Ireland
