The Red Devils started the match at Villa Park, hoping to extend their recent game streak across all competitions. More Premier League news here:  Premier League news and stories: 2023/2024 (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Villa made a good start to the game and looked to keep possession of the ball for long spells to draw Manchester United onto them. However, the visitors had other plans as they sat back and looked to hit on the counter. Rasmus Hojlund gave them the perfect start as he fired the Red Devils 1-0 up after 17 minutes following an assist by Harry Maguire. United had 42% of the ball in the first half and attempted seven shots, but hit the target just once for Hojlund’s goal. Villa had 10 attempts with three on target but neither side managed to alter the scoreline as the visitors led 1-0 at the break. Unf

The Big Discussion: Manchester United's potential midfield signings

Image
Man United target a new midfielder Let's explore some of the options that they could sign to improve their squad before the transfer window closes.  Adrien Rabiot - Free agent Rabiot, 29, is a free agent after leaving Juventus. The France international is reportedly interested in a move to the Premier League. He almost joined the Red Devils last season before signing a new one-year deal. Liam, a Manchester United fan, told us: "This would be a great signing for us. On a free transfer, it would make complete sense. He has great experience and would be a fantastic partner for Mainoo in our midfield." Manchester United are currently aiming to reduce their wage bill, so you could argue that It makes no sense to revive their interest in Rabiot. However, on a free transfer, you could make the case for the transfer to give the club more experience in the midfield. Will United sign him this summer? United's hopes of securing Rabiot's signature for a second consecuti

The striker latched onto Marcel Sabitzer's knockdown in the 27th minute. He volleyed emphatically beyond David Raya from close range to secure a vital three points for his side.  Brentford were surprisingly passive after being engaged in a 3-3 thriller with Brighton only four days prior and such an exertion was evident in Thom

United are in the market for a new forward, as they want to add to their attacking options alongside Rasmus Hojlund. The club has been evaluating different options for a potential transfer in this position, and Gyokeres seems to have caught the attention of the club's management. It is believed that INEOS, the club's new minority owners, are eager to proceed with the transfer plans to avoid missing out on specific targets. INEOS are in the process of bringing in Dan Ashworth as sporting director and Jason Wilcox as technical director. However, their appointments are not yet finalised.  United are aware that they need to address key areas in

PL reaction: United head back down to earth

Liverpool 7 - 0 Manchester United Six second-half goals from Liverpool saw Man United suffer their worst defeat of the Premier League era. Manchester United had initially grown into a tentative first half and carved out plenty of goalscoring opportunities. However, the hosts took the lead just before half-time through Cody Gakpo.  This was the brief reaction from Manchester United blog, Super Reds Super News:  United Day: The darkest of days (superredssupernews.blogspot.com) The nightmare begins The away side then conceded a couple of quick goals and, ultimately, adding six after the break courtesy of a Gakpo second. There was a brace apiece for Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, and a late effort from Roberto Firmino. All the best reaction This was how the Manchester United manager responded to the defeat. One United fan commented: "It was a heartbreaking 2nd half, but in football, you have days where you can play for 500 mins and nothing will work out. It was quite unfortuna

PL: Newcastle regret missed chances against Manchester United

Image
Newcastle United 1 - 1 Manchester United Edinson Cavani came off the bench to score an equaliser for Manchester United and ruin Newcastle's hopes of a priceless second league win of the season. The striker was introduced after a  poor first half from the visitors, during which they conspired to partly gift Allan Saint-Maximin the opening goal. Cavani immediately added a threat to the blunt attack. He side-footed one effort wide before finding the net at the third time of asking with a poked shot from inside the box. It was cruel on Newcastle. They defended with determination and counter-attacked with intensity to produce their finest display of the season at a loud and passionate St James' Park. However, the Geordie faithful would have to ask a rather key question. Why can't they put in that level of performance every week? For Manchester United, it was another poor performance in a season of poor performances. Where do they go from here? Let's have a look at some o

Referee Donatas Rumsas was summoned to the pitchside monitor twice more, awarding penalties to both sides for handballs, described as soft by most people.  UCL: Emotional and dramatic night at Old Trafford (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com)

Premier League: Man United end campaign with a win

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 0 - 2 Manchester United Rasmus Hojlund and Diogo Dalot helped Manchester United  conclude  their league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Brighton. Despite the win, Erik ten Hag's side finished the campaign in eighth place – their lowest top-flight position since 1989-90. Brighton, on the other hand, couldn't provide the perfect send-off for departing boss Roberto De Zerbi, despite having better chances and dominating possession. Adam Webster and Joao Pedro came closest to putting the Seagulls ahead in the first half, but neither had the clinical edge to beat Andre Onana. Brighton  were  left ruing missed opportunities when Dalot slotted past Jason Steele in the 73rd  minute,  before substitute Hojlund secured the three points two minutes before the end of normal time. The Seagulls ended the season in 11th place, missing out on the top half by a single point. Manchester United entered the final day knowing they needed a better result than Newcast

Premier League: Palace win at Old Trafford again

Image
Manchester United 0 - 1 Crystal Palace Manchester United suffered their second consecutive home defeat in the Premier League as Crystal Palace secured an impressive victory at Old Trafford, thanks to Joachim Andersen's outstanding strike. These two teams had clashed just five days earlier, with Erik ten Hag's side comfortably winning 3-0 in the Carabao Cup . However, Palace had rested several key players for that match and presented a different challenge on Saturday, delivering an excellent away performance. Palace took the lead after Tyrick Mitchell cleared Rasmus Hojlund's shot off the line. Andersen then brilliantly fired a first-time shot into the top corner from a free-kick. Despite Manchester United's relentless pressure, t hey struggled to breach Palace's defence. When they did manage to break through, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made crucial saves, first tipping Bruno Fernandes' dipping shot over the bar and then denying Hojlund's powerful header.

Transfer News: Everton reject Branthwaite bid from Man United

Image
More transfer news from Old Trafford and Goodison Park Everton have turned down a second offer from Manchester United, this time around £45m, for their defender Jarrad Branthwaite . Last month, the Toffees also rejected a £35m bid from United for the 22-year-old England international. It's believed that United's revised offer included potential additional payments if certain targets were achieved. This still falls short of Everton's valuation. Branthwaite has shone as a left-sided central defender at Goodison Park, playing a crucial role in helping the Merseyside club avoid relegation last season despite two points deductions for breaching financial loss rules. United are eager to bolster their central defence options and have been in talks over Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt , who is currently representing the Netherlands at Euro 2024. With Raphael Varane having left the club, there has been no confirmation yet of a new one-year deal for veteran Northern Ireland

EFL: Derby County promoted

Derby County 2 - 0 Carlisle United Derby County secured promotion to the Championship after a confident and assured final-day win against already-relegated Carlisle United at a jubilant Pride Park Stadium. The Rams required only a draw against the division's bottom side to end their two-year stay in League One. However, Max Bird's powerful and curving shot from outside the box, which found the back of the net after just five minutes, had Derby County supporters singing and celebrating to the tune of 'we are going up'. James Collins then sealed Paul Warne's side's promotion with a composed and close-range finish on the hour mark to complete the victory. This marks 50-year-old Warne's fourth time leading a team to promotion from League One, having previously achieved this feat three times with Rotherham United as they alternated between the second and third tiers of English football. UCL Classics: Man United v Bayern Munich 1999

Image
Manchester United v Bayern Munich 1999 The first in a series of articles where we talk about some classic Champions League matches Background Manchester United went into the game having won the league and cup double and they were now chasing a historic treble. Mario Basler gave Bayern the lead after 5 minutes, and as the game developed, it started to look like they would win and United would fall short. There was to be a dramatic end to the game though.
