Image
Manchester United 1 - 0 FC Copenhagen Andre Onana saved a penalty in the final seconds to give Manchester United a dramatic victory against Copenhagen. On what was always going to be an an emotional night in Manchester, a lone piper walked the teams out playing the United anthem 'We'll Never Die' as Old Trafford paid its respects to Sir Bobby Charlton. The match report in brief The vast majority of United fans were hoping that Harry Maguire's first goal since February 2022 had given them the win they craved. Christian Eriksen delivered a superb curling cross to the far post 18 minutes from time, Maguire met it perfectly, shrugging off the attentions of a defender to make sure he was in position to head home. However, with the four minutes of added time played, Scott McTominay conceded a penalty by swinging a high boot dangerously near Mohamed Elyounoussi's face. In dramatic circumstances, Onana turned Jordan Larsson's effort wide with what turned out to be

UCL: United lose after chaotic night in Denmark

FC Copenhagen 4 - 3 Manchester United VAR stole the spotlight again On a wild night in Copenhagen, fans witnessed seven goals, two spot-kicks, a game-altering red card, a protester causing a stir, and a thrilling last-minute winner courtesy of a 17-year-old substitute.  Goal. FC Copenhagen make it 4-3. #MUFC || #UCL — Manchester United (@ManUtd) November 8, 2023 Amidst the chaos reminiscent of Monday's madness at Tottenham, video technology played a pivotal role in crucial decisions that impacted Manchester United's fate in the Champions League. Manager Erik ten Hag believed that VAR's intervention in dismissing Marcus Rashford for a challenge on Elias Jelert was a "game-changer," and it's tough to dispute that claim. Referee Donatas Rumsas was summoned to the pitchside monitor twice more, awarding penalties to both sides for handballs, described as soft by most people.  UCL: Emotional and dramatic night at Old Trafford (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com)

Premier League: Man United end campaign with a win

Image
Brighton & Hove Albion 0 - 2 Manchester United Rasmus Hojlund and Diogo Dalot helped Manchester United  conclude  their league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Brighton. Despite the win, Erik ten Hag's side finished the campaign in eighth place – their lowest top-flight position since 1989-90. Brighton, on the other hand, couldn't provide the perfect send-off for departing boss Roberto De Zerbi, despite having better chances and dominating possession. Adam Webster and Joao Pedro came closest to putting the Seagulls ahead in the first half, but neither had the clinical edge to beat Andre Onana. Brighton  were  left ruing missed opportunities when Dalot slotted past Jason Steele in the 73rd  minute,  before substitute Hojlund secured the three points two minutes before the end of normal time. The Seagulls ended the season in 11th place, missing out on the top half by a single point. Manchester United entered the final day knowing they needed a better result than Newcast

However, Palace had rested several key players for that match and presented a different challenge on Saturday, delivering an excellent away performance. Despite Manchester United's relentless pressure, t hey struggled to breach Palace's defence. When they did manage to break through, goalkeeper Sam Johnstone made crucial saves, first tipping Bruno Fernandes' dipping shot over the bar and then denying Hojlund's powerful header.

UCL Classics: Man United v Bayern Munich 1999

Image
Manchester United v Bayern Munich 1999 The first in a series of articles where we talk about some classic Champions League matches Background Manchester United went into the game having won the league and cup double and they were now chasing a historic treble. The quest for glory in Europe's premier competition had been the focus point of United's development since they qualified in 1993. There were some memorable encounters along the route to the final. That included an incredible comeback against Juventus. The match itself  United were without Paul Scholes and their captain Roy Keane who were both suspended. Mario Basler gave Bayern the lead after 5 minutes, and as the game developed, it started to look like they would win and United would fall short. There was to be a dramatic end to the game though. Goals from Teddy Sheringham and Ole Solskjaer in stoppage gave United a win that people will talk about forever.  The highlights can be found in the video above. Credit -

FA Cup: United win on penalties

The Reds edged past the Sky Blues on penalties after a crazy and eventful 120 minutes to set up a rematch of last year's final, against Manchester City. Following goals from Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes, United appeared to be in total and complete control. Despite having a few chances, it did look like this was one match too far for Coventry. However, goals Ellis Simms and O'Hare reduced the deficit and made things very nervy for Ten Hag's side. Then in stoppage time, Haji Wright kept his nerve in stoppage time to score from the spot and send the game into extra time.
