Women's Champions League: Barca end Chelsea dreams

Image
Chelsea 0 - 2 Barcelona Barcelona won 2-1 on aggregate  Chelsea's hopes of making it to the Women's Champions League final in manager Emma Hayes' final season at the club were crushed with a defeat by Barcelona at a sold-out Stamford Bridge.  Despite leading 1-0 from the semi-final first leg, Chelsea was unable to hold onto their advantage as holders Barca turned the tide in their favour. Referee Iuliana Demetrescu made two crucial decisions that went against the Blues.  Firstly, she issued a second booking to Chelsea defender Kadeisha Buchanan within four minutes, leaving the hosts with only 10 players on the field just before the hour mark.  A history of women's football (eurosuperfootball.blogspot.com) Secondly, she awarded a penalty to Barcelona for a contentious foul on Aitana Bonmati, which Fridolina Rolfo converted. FA Cup: Liverpool win second trophy of the season

Chelsea 0 - 0 Liverpool (Liverpool win 6-5 on penalties) Liverpool won their second trophy of the season and they keep their quadruple dream alive After a tense 120 minutes, Liverpool triumphed on penalties. They have won the FA Cup for the first time since 2006.  Before the drama of the penalties, it was a close fairly close game for the majority, even if Liverpool did have more shots. Chelsea did have their moments.  Both sides struggled to find that finishing touch and it finished 0-0. In the end, it was won on penalties.  Liverpool quickly gained the advantage in the shootout after César Azpilicueta hit the post with the second Blues spot-kick. Sadio Mané then wasted the chance to win it earlier with a weak fifth kick. Mason Mount then missed Chelsea’s seventh kick, allowing Tsimikas to slide in the winner. PL: Chelsea 1 - 1 Everton

Chelsea missed a chance to close the gap on leaders Manchester City as a depleted Everton side earned a fantastic point. Mason Mount gave Chelsea a deserved lead after 70 minutes. The England midfielder placed a calm finish past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford following Reece James' pass. A very interesting evening at Stamford Bridge Everton shocked the European champions by equalising four minutes later. The 19-year-old defender Jarrad Branthwaite converted at the back post after Anthony Gordon's free-kick. Chelsea carried on having the chances to win it but the winning goal never came. Thiago Silva had a great opportunity but saw his powerful header superbly saved by Pickford. It was an impressive performance from the England international as he also kept out attempts from Christian Pulisic, James, Jorginho and Mount when the score was 0-0. He has come in for some criticism this season from Everton fans and beyond. Any questions about his ability were answered tonight
