News: Lionel Messi named men's player of the year

 Lionel Messi has been named men's player of the year at the 2022 Best Fifa Awards. The World Cup winner beat French forwards Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to the prize. He captained Argentina to World Cup glory in Qatar, and scored 27 goals in 49 games for club and country in 2021-22. Liam, a Manchester United fan, told us: "You have to say, he deserves it. The World Cup was the crowning glory of this career." In a long statement, Messi told the media: "It's amazing. It's an honour for me to be here tonight and win this award. Without my team-mates I wouldn't be here. It was an amazing year and I achieved the dream that I've been hoping for so long and finally, I managed to achieve it." Manuel, a PSG fan, was delighted with Messi winning the award: "He deserves this award. However, more for his performances with Argentina then PSG sadly. RIP Ronnie Radford The name Ronnie Radford might not seem familiar to many football fans across Europe but in the UK, he's synonymous with the magic of the FA Cup. Everyone at European Super Football was devastated to hear of his, and we wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time. Radford played for Hereford, Leeds United, Cheltenham Town and Newport County. Let's explore a busy day of Spanish football  Real Madrid 3 - 1 Sevilla Real Madrid showed again why they are the dominant side in La Liga as two late goals ended the resistance of visitors Sevilla.  Madrid were set to drop points for only the second time this season before substitute Lucas Vazquez and Fede Valverde secured victory. Premier League news: Steven Gerrard sacked by Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard has been sacked as manager of Aston Villa.  The announcement came just 90 minutes after they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage last night. Villa are currently out of the releation zone only on goals scored and. During the defeat at Fulham, the travelling support were repeatedly booing Gerrard. The club decided to take swift action. The ex Liverpool player has been in the job for less than a year. He has been unable to make a success of his first management role in English football. In November 2021, we reported on Gerrard being appointed as manager of Villa.  Despite the initial excitement, it has never really gone according to plan for both the player and the club.   This is what Gerrard said the media moments before he was sacked. The first sacking of the Premier League season has been announced. Photo credit -  Football Pictures | Flickr Bournemouth have announced the sacking of boss Scott Parker after Saturday's 9-0 defeat by Liverpool, four games into the season. The Liverpool thrashing was Bournemouth's third straight league defeat, having won their opening match. Gary O'Neil will take interim charge of the team and will be assisted by Shaun Cooper and Tommy Elphick. Parker left Fulham for Bournemouth in June 2021 and led them to promotion from the Championship as runners-up, but his managerial statistics since returning to the Premier League make unhappy reading. Having signed Raheem Sterling a few days ago, Chelsea have made another signing. They have signed centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly on a four-year deal from Napoli. The Senegal international joined Napoli from Genk in 2014 and made 317 appearances for the Italian side. His arrival at Stamford Bridge follows the departures of defenders Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona, both on free transfers. The defender has been linked with a number of clubs over recent seasons, including Manchester United and Manchester City. Koulibaly made his senior debut for Senegal in September 2015 and has since earned 62 caps, captaining the team to victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He becomes Chelsea's second signing since the Todd Boehly-led takeover after Raheem Sterling joined the club in a £50m deal. Manchester United have announced the signing of Christian Eriksen. He has joined the club and has signed a contract until June 2025. The midfielder has been capped 115 times for Denmark, scoring 38 goals for his country. Eriksen has played 237 games in the Premier League, registering 52 goals and 71 assists.  Reaction Christian Eriksen told the Manchester United website: "Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. The UEFA Nations League is still a fairly new idea. It is a biennial international football competition contested by the member associations of UEFA. The last edition of the competition was won by France. You can read about it here. Ronald Koeman’s spell as manager of Barvcelona came to an abrupt end after he was sacked following a 1-0 defeat at Rayo Vallecano. This exit provides something of an unhappy conclusion for the former player. Koeman won them their first European Cup in 1992 and leaves the club in further turmoil on and off the field.  Derby County have been docked 12 points by the English Football League, sending them to the bottom of the Championship. Wayne Rooney’s side had picked up a credible 10 points from eight games but are now six points adrift of second-bottom and rivals Nottingham Forest. English Football League: Oldham fans protest about their owners

Oldham Athletic fans have been protesting about the running of their club. Pity so many within the media ignored it.  A recent article in The Guardian mentions: "Late payments of salaries, threats of player strikes and threats of administration have punctuated Abdallah Lemsagam’s reign." After weeks and months of anger, they have organised a huge protest outside the ground ahead of their League Two match v Hartlepool.   (A distant look at the Boundary Park ground back in 2014 Social media posts about the protests Throughout the protest, many Oldham fans have taken to social media to show the scale of the event taking place outside their stadium.
