Aaron Ramsey put Wales ahead in the second minute before Bale set up Neco Williams to score with a low shot which Belarus keeper Sergei Chernik should have saved. Bale was taken off at half-time as he made his first appearance after two months out injured. Ramsey extended the hosts' lead with a second-half penalty. Ben Davies then scored his first international goal and, after Artem Kontsevoi whipped in a superb 20-yard strike for Belarus, Connor Roberts flicked in from a free-kick for Wales' fifth. Paris Saint Germain 7 - 2 Maccabi Haifa Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe both scored two goals as Paris St-Germain thrashed Maccabi Haifa to reach the last 16 of the Champions League. Neymar and Carlos Soler also scored while Shon Goldberg scored an own goal. Messi's two goals mean he becomes the first player to score 80 goals in the group phase of the Champions League. A game that had lacked quality and excitement for much of its duration seemed destined for extra time. Manchester City came back from behind to beat Paris St-Germain and secure qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League. They have also done so as group winners.  The home side's outstanding display reaped the reward it deserved, as they showed great character after Kylian Mbappe swept PSG into the lead. There has been interesting news from Madrid Real Madrid captain Luka Modric has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the Spanish champions. Modric, 38, has amassed 26 trophies, including six Champions League titles and four domestic championships, since joining Real Madrid from Tottenham in 2012. The 2018 Ballon d'Or winner has made 534 appearances for Los Blancos, scoring 39 goals. In the 2023-24 season, the Croatian played in 46 matches across all competitions, though he was in the starting lineup only 23 times. Modric started all three of Croatia's matches at Euro 2024, where they were eliminated after finishing third in their group. His contract was set to expire at the end of June, Modric’s renewal ensures that manager Carlo Ancelotti will have his experienced presence as he prepares for his 13th season at the Bernabeu. Another new signing for Manchester United The £72m (£64 million plus 8 million of add-ons) signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta has been completed by the club. Having joined the Serie A side in 2022, the 20-year-old scored 10 goals in 34 appearances last season. After suffering a small injury during pre-season training with Atalanta, Hojlund will miss the beginning of the 2023-24 season. United kick off the campaign against Wolves on Monday 14th August. This means United will probably start the season with Rashford playing in that more central role.  He was presented to the United fans before their friendly win against Lens. Before Manchester United's friendly with Lens, which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Red Devils, Hojlund received a rapturous reception when he walked out of the players' tunnel.  Lionel Messi has been named men's player of the year at the 2022 Best Fifa Awards. The World Cup winner beat French forwards Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema to the prize. France 1 - 2 Denmark Andreas Cornelius scored twice as Denmark came from behind to beat holders France in the Nations League. Karim Benzema opened the scoring with a stunning effort. He cut in from the right-wing before dummying his way past three defenders and slotting in. Cornelius volleyed in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's ball over the top to level. The 60th-minute substitute won the game when he ran onto a long ball before firing in. This was the first time the former Cardiff striker has scored twice in an international game.
