PL: Leicester City get revenge on Liverpool

Image
Leicester City 1 - 0 Liverpool Ademola Lookman scored the only goal of the match as Leicester City beat Liverpool. This leaves the Reds six points off the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool's best chances came in the first half when Mohamed Salah had a penalty saved by Kasper Schmeichel and the Egyptian headed the rebound off the bar. Sadio Mane then wasted a couple of chances for Jurgen Klopp's side. The 2020 Premier League champions were made to pay by the hosts in the 59th minute. Lookman, with only his fourth touch after coming on, took Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's pass in his stride, beat Liverpool's Joel Matip and fired a shot past Alisson. This was Leicester's only shot on target. Leicester hung on despite the relentless late Liverpool pressure. This all came just six days after blowing a 3-1 lead to lose on penalties against the same opposition in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. This result was all the more remarkable given the home side's

PL: Southampton put on show of resilience against Tottenham

Southampton 1 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur Southampton held Tottenham to a draw despite playing with 10 men for over 50 minutes at St Mary's. Ralph Hasenhuttl's side started well when James Ward-Prowse cut across a bouncing ball to volley a swerving shot past Hugo Lloris for a superb opener. The home side looked to have undone their great work when Mohammed Salisu fouled Son Heung-min in the box to earn himself a second booking in a short period of time. This allowed Harry Kane to score. In the second 45 minutes, Spurs twice had the ball in the net. Kane saw a strike ruled out by VAR for a narrow offside. Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster was then spared own-goal blushes when it was judged he was fouled by Matt Doherty. Reaction from St Mary's Spurs Head Coach Antonio Conte was annoyed that his side didn't take advantage of the extra man. He told the club's website: “We have to be a bit frustrated for the final result. We’ve played a lot, the last three games against

England had a superb tournament but came unstuck in a penalty shootout in the final. The gradual return of crowds throughout the competition meant a special atmosphere.  Italy's triumph was perhaps unexpected despite their wonderful run of form throughout recent history, Southgate and England went one better than their semi-final spot in the 2018 World Cup. Can they finally win their first trophy since 1966 in Qatar 2022? Another notable mention from the tournament was France 3-3 Switzerland. The 2018 World Cup winners were knocked out after an enthralling match. Chelsea v Manchester City - Champions League final Another all English final. Championship: Derby County 1 - 0 West Brom

Derby County are not going down without a fight.  An immense performance against promotion West Brom left them still well adrift at the bottom of the Championship. There's still plenty of hope within the club.  Their sixth league win of the campaign came thanks to a defensive howler. This gifted substitute Colin Kazim-Richards the only goal of the game. Kazim-Richards could well turn out to be key in their bid for survival in the second tier of English football. That level of experience is always important. After the match, Rooney told the BBC and other media outlets: "I could see something happening between the defender and the goalkeeper. Them getting so close to each other, you hoped it would fall for us. It did and he [Kazim-Richards] put in a nice finish. "The administrators have confirmed they have had bids from other companies and it needs to be done before January. I'm trying to plan for the future of this club and if it keeps dragging on, it's not hel
