Scottish Premiership: All the Boxing Day action

Image
Despite reduced crowds, there were plenty of goals on an action-packed Boxing Day in the Scottish Premiership. St Johnstone 1 - 3 Celtic Celtic emerged from a "chaotic couple of days" to inflict St Johnstone's eighth consecutive defeat. Two goals from Liel Abada's first-half double had the visitors in total command until Chris Kane halved the deficit. Nir Bitton eventually put the result beyond doubt when he scored a late third to send Celtic into the winter break six points adrift of leaders Rangers who won later in the day. One Celtic fan told us: "It was a solid performance. We need to keep winning and who knows where the season will finish?" ⏰ Unique Angle ⚽️⚽️ Abada ⚽️ Bitton pic.twitter.com/hmdLlpfaKn — Celtic TV (@CelticTV) December 27, 2021 Rangers 2 - 0 St Mirren Scott Wright scored an opening header before Alfredo Morelos slammed in a first-half second at Ibrox. Now for an update from Scotland as Celtic and Rangers both win Celtic 2 - 1 Aberdeen Callum McGregor's bizarre winner earned Celtic victory over Aberdeen and made sure they remain four points behind Rangers. Jota's finish broke the deadlock on 20 minutes, but Liel Abada's trip on David Bates allowed Lewis Ferguson to equalise from the penalty spot. Celtic stepped up the intensity in the second period and scored a lucky winner, with a clearance rebounding off McGregor into the net. Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass will be annoyed at losing in such circumstances after his team put in a brave defensive display. The reality is the defeat extends their losing streak to three games. They are also ten points off the top four. This is what he said to Aberdeen's social media channels.  📺 Post match reaction from the manager. pic.twitter.com/LPmKUBDEBt — Aberdeen FC (@AberdeenFC) November 28, 2021 As for Celtic, it is a vital win  as they put Thursday's Europa League defeat

Celtic picked up a crucial Europa League victory against Ferencvaros in Budapest. The Glasgow side moved a point behind Real Betis, who were thrashed 4-0 at Bayer Leverkusen, with two games to play in the group. The Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou told BT Sport: "Full credit to the boys. It was three great goals, I thought we could have had a couple more. I'm disappointed at conceding the second goal as I don't think it was a true reflection of how we played tonight. "The fact we can get three goals away from home is because we just go at teams. I still think that is the way forward. It's the kind of team we want to be and I think it's the team our supporters want us to be." One Celtic fan told us: "After some of the appalling performances last season, this campaign has been a breath of fresh air. We are looking superb at times and we could easily progress to the next stage of this competition." Another spoke with great passion about their man

Jota's late winner earned Celtic a first away Scottish Premiership win since last season as Aberdeen's poor form continued.  Kyogo Furuhashi chested in a deserved early opener but the hosts improved after the break and equalised when Lewis Ferguson diverted a corner in. In the end, Celtic responded late at Pittodrie as Jota's close-range finish earned a probably deserved one. The result means Celtic remain sixth and Aberdeen stay ninth. The home side are without a win in nine games. This includes a four-game losing streak in the Premiership. It is their worst run in the top-flight since April 2011. Reaction Aberdeen manager Stephen Glass said: "Overall we're disappointed, but I'm pleased with the second half. "We're concerned we're not getting the points we deserve on the board. It's important we keep trying to get it right." He also spoke with his club's social media accounts. 📺 Post match reaction from our manager. pic.twitter.c

Updates from Scotland: Livingston 1 - 0 Celtic

Celtic lost for the fourth time in five games in all competitions as Andrew Shinnie's goal lifted Livingston off the bottom of the Scottish Premiership. They are now seven months without an away win domestically. They rarely looked like ending that run here. Shinnie put the home side ahead in a first half where the visitors failed to test goalkeeper Max Stryjek.Celtic did improve after the break but could not salvage a point that they really would not have deserved.  Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou spoke with media outlets after the match: "We didn't start the game well and we paid the price. After they scored we dug ourselves into a little bit of a hole. We just weren't aggressive enough. "It's not good enough. If we want to be successful we can't continue not picking up results in these games. That's the test for us." More football news from around Europe can be found here.  Livingston manager David Martindale added: "Andrew Shinnie remin
