UCL: Bayern thrash Red Bull Salzburg

Bayern Munich 7 - 1 FC Red Bull Salzburg Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick inside the opening 23 minutes as Bayern Munich thrashed Red Bull Salzburg to qualify for the next round of the Champions League. The Poland captain confidently stroked home two penalties inside 21 minutes. He was twice recklessly brought down by Salzburg defender Maximilian Wober, the second confirmed after a VAR review. The first spot-kick was Lewandowski's 40th goal of the season in all competitions. He added his third after chasing down an attempted clearance from visiting goalkeeper Philipp Kohn. It is the first time a Champions League hat-trick has been completed as early as the 23rd minute. However, it is not the quickest treble in the competition. It's time to have another look at an icon from the history of football. This time it's Michael Ballack. A former German midfielder who played at the highest level of the game.  A summary Ballack is among the top goal scorers in the history of the German national team. During his career, he won the German Footballer of the Year award three times. The midfielder was known for his passing range, powerful shot, physical strength and commanding presence in midfield. The one negative from his career was that he never won the Champions League. He did pick up two runner-up medals in 2002 with Leverkusen and 2008 with Chelsea.  The start of his career Ballack's career started to take off when he was transferred to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1997. He won the Bundesliga in his first season at the club, his first major honour. Bundesliga: Bayern Munich 4 - 0 VfL Wolfsburg

Robert Lewandowski scored his 43rd Bayern Munich goal of 2021 to break Gerd Muller's record for the most league goals in a calendar year. The Poland striker volleyed home three minutes from the end of the match as Bayern thrashed Wolfsburg 4-0 at Allianz Arena. The win moves Bayern nine points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga.  Midfielder Thomas Muller opened the scoring on seven minutes before setting up Dayot Upamecano with a header in the second half to double Bayern's lead. Leroy Sane added to the scoreline two minutes later with a curled shot into the top corner to put the game beyond 12th-placed Wolfsburg. On 87 minutes Lewandowski wrote his name in the history books yet again by firing in from close range past goalkeeper Koen Casteels. Post-match reaction  Thomas Müller said: "The most important thing for me was that we won the game, so that we go into the Christmas holiday with a good feeling. Now the focus is on family and friends."

UCL: Barcelona knocked out and Benfica qualify

It was a dramatic night in Champions League group E as Barcelona were knocked out and Bayern Munich finished with a 100% record. Benfica will join Bayern in the next round after they beat Dynamo Kiev 2-0. Despite only having 36% possession, it was a fairly comfortable win that was secured by goals from Yaremchuk and Junior. A horror night for Barcelona Barcelona lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich to miss out on the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in 17 years. It has been reported that the German FA are investigating Borussia Dortmund & England midfielder's comments on a referee. Jude Bellingham, 18, questioned Zwayer's appointment, referring to his six-month ban for a match-fixing scandal in 2005. Transfer Rumours: Karim Adeyemi linked with move from RB Salzburg

Reports from around Europe have indicated that Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have all expressed an interest in RB Salzburg and Germany striker Karim Adeyemi It is believed that the Austrian side will only accept a bid of between 30 million and 40 million Euros. Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table with a straightforward win at Greuther Furth. Thomas Muller opened the scoring before Joshua Kimmich doubled their advantage. Bayern were reduced to 10 men after the break when Benjamin Pavard was sent off, but they added a third through a Sebastian Griesbeck own goal. Furth did score a consolation late on but Bayern move three points clear of Wolfsburg. Bayern are in great form at the moment and have scored 29 goals in their last six games in all competitions.
